About Our Store

Chelsea Market Baskets store opened in 1997, within the retail food concourse of Chelsea Market in Manhattan. The old NABISCO factory is home to a mix of eccentric retail stores, restaurants and bakeries. As one of the oldest retailers our store has changed and grown into the space without losing site of David Porat’s (owner) commitment of offering the most delicious and unique gourmet food products from around the world and around the block.  In the 2700 square-foot space we display all the items that fill our baskets that you see on cmb-gifts.com.  In addition to the great products that are enclosed in the baskets we fill our store up with other great finds, hand-cut artisanal cheese and empty baskets.

Our business is well-thought-out designed gifts that taste good. In the store we are committed to having a selection of these baskets stocked for a last minute gifts.  All of our gifts that are on cmb-gifts.com or in our catalog can be made on request or you can place an order online for store pickup. (All orders placed before 3 pm can be picked up same day.)  Want to put together a basket for someone special, come into the store, pick out product, a basket and for a small fee we will put together a one of a kind basket.  Any of our staff will be happy to assist you in creating a basket that fits your needs.

Specialty Foods

We offer the many imported and domestic gourmet specialty food lines. These products all represent high-end quality foods manufactured to exacting standards which stand on their own or fit nicely into gift baskets.  Our Specialty items range from Spices from South Africa to McClure’s pickles from Brooklyn.

Tyrrells Potato Chips :It would be an understatement to say this is one of our customers favorite items in the store. Just last year we sold over 10,000 units! Tyrrells Potato Chips are unique because from seed to chip, everything that goes into Tyrrells is made and processed directly  on their potato farm. The farmer, Will Chase, grew up in Tyrrells Court, England (the town for which the chips are named) and has been farming potatoes there for the last 20 years. It is not uncommon for the potatoes to be dug in the morning and turned into chips by lunchtime. The sweet earthiness of the potatoes can be found in each bite. They are produced in small batches and fried quickly in high-grade sunflower oil.  Flavors include Sweet Chili and Red Pepper, Cheddar and Chive, Beef and Horseradish, and Lightly Sea Salt.

McClure’s Pickles from Brooklyn: These pickles some pickles…Spicy with red chilies, Garlic or Just Dill these pickles will explode in your month with all of the flavor they pack. As the New York Times article wrote “These are pickup truck, not designer S.U.V. pickles, and they are extremely good at what they do.”

The Cape Herb & Spice Company, based in Capetown, South Africa, blends spices from around the globe into unique and delicious combination. They are known for the quality and freshness of their products and their innovative, revolutionary transparent adjustable grinders that top the recycled glass bottles. They have pioneered the adjustable grinder tops which can be adjusted to grind from fine to course according to individual taste. Some of our customers favorites in the store are: Solar Power:sun-dried tomatoes, black pepper, roasted garlic, olive, bell peppers, red onion, basil, wheat-grass, Darling Bud: hand harvested sea salt, rose buds and petals, lavender, chamomile flowers, calendual petals and Slash Grinder: sea salt, parsley, black pepper, coriander, nori, sea lettuce, oregano, basil, onion, garlic, poppy seeds, celery, bay, chili, lemon grass, mustard seeds, herb petals

Chocolate & Candy

At Chelsea Market Baskets we continuously search for chocolate and candy that will interest the most sophisticated palate the young developing pallets of today. The store has Chocolate Bars at all percentage of cacao, with brands such as Dolfin, Cafe Tessa, Taza and Cote D’Or.  We also keep in stock an assortment of nostolgic candies and a selection of bulk candy and chocolate.   Some of our customers favorites are below.

Leonidas Chocolates, made in Belgium since 1910, are renowned throughout Europe as the finest quality chocolates produced with a strong commitment to freshness.  Leonidas are sold in 100 countries at 1,400 different retail stores, we are one of the  lucky ones to be able to sell such a great chocolate.  Our assortment of Leonidas includes praline pieces (filled with toasted ground hazelnuts and almonds), fresh cream filled pieces, and truffles.

At Chelsea Market Baskets we carry between 50 and 60 different types of Leonidas pieces and are available in any quantity you may desire. Some of our top sellers include:   Manon Café, a roasted hazelnut and praline filling with fresh coffee cream surrounded by white chocolate (Leonidas signature piece); Noisette Masquee: Hazelnut Praline with a whole hazelnut surrounded by dark, milk or white chocolate; and Irresistible: Dark or White chocolate with butter cream flavored strawberry and cointreau.

Nunu Chocolates from Brooklyn is a recent addition to Chelsea Market Baskets and sure has become a popular one with our customers and staff. Justine Pringle the chocolatier, makes a salted caramel hand dipped in chocolate then sprinkle with Fleur de Sel that causes our customers to go into a state of chocolate ecstasy.

Summerdown Pure Mint from England has gone back to old way of making mint candies, by using Black Mitcham peppermint and distilling it down to make a pure mint oil, which flavors creams and crisps.   Refreshing and cool these candies are one of a kind and with their Blue book they are perfect for a hostess gift or a treat for yourself.

Assorted chocolate Bars ranging from Milk to 89% dark chocolate.  We carry chocolate from Dolfin, CafeTessa, Cote D’Or, Taza and Berkshire Bark.

Assorted Liquorice:  We are lucky at Chelsea Market Baskets because we had the opportunity to bring in special products into the United States that no other retail in the United States has.  Our selection on Assorted Liquorice is one of those products; with 15 different types of Liquorice from England, Italy, Netherlands and Germany, everyone will find at least one they like.

Hammond’s Candies Mitchell Sweets: All Natural Vanilla or chocolate caramel covered marshmallows from Hammond’s candies of Denver, CO are a sinful duo that has been made since the 1920′s.  Nostalgic to the older generation and a new and exciting treat for the younger.

Bissenger Organic Pandas: Bissinger’s developed these Gummy Pandas as a healthy organic snack for children; however, these quickly became favorites among adults do to their antoixidants-rich ingredients.  Flavors include Pomegranate White Tea, Green Tea Spiced Peach and Blueberry Acai.

Tea & Coffee: We carry some of the highest quality coffee and tea.

Tea Forté was founded in 2003 by Peter Hewitt, he combines whole tea leaves with artful designed tea vassals and packaging, to change how people experience tea.  We carry a range of Tea Forté products including cups and servers.

Ahmad Tea is know around the world as having the finiest quality of tea leaves.  The tea flavors vary from the traditional English selection to green and fruit favored tea.

La Colombe is the premiere coffee roasting company in the United States, setting benchmarks for taste, service and knowledge. It is roasted in Philadelphia and served at their own café, as well as some of the best restaurants in New York including Daniel, Four Seasons Hotel, Waldorf Astoria and Le Bernardin.

New York City:  Being one of the oldest tenants in Chelsea Market we have seen many changes.  One of the biggest changes that we have seen over the years is the increase of travelers coming to Chelsea Market.  At Chelsea Market Baskets we have found a balance of offering the best food products in the world with some uncommon NYC treasures.

Cavallini & Co. Vintage New York products: These products include postcards, magnets and wrapping paper with NYC beloved spots.

Baby Products

Our two main lines in our baby section includes Bearington Bear, this new collection offers coats, blankets and stuffed animals at very reasonible prices and Bunnies by the Bay, which includes baby clothes, rattles, soft plush.  Froggies Leap and Pink Bunsie is our most popular themes.

Burt’s Bees baby products: We carry the baby line of Burt’s Bees, the product is make with the purest and gentlas natural ingredients to help nurture a special baby from top to bottom.
